Is there any way to mark the posts it thinks are spam as not spam? Out of all the posts that have come up for it on my board, not one of them were actually spam.

About 2 months ago we rolled out a spam fighting tool...we HATE spam and I am sure you do too.

This is a tool for site admins, and to get to it go to the Admin Control Panel (click Admin CP to do so), then click System Settings->FIGHT SPAM

The tool worked for some, but did not work for all, so we went back into the lab and delivered on ALL of the complaints/suggestions/ideas that we saw.

Pretty much all of the suggestions were things we saw necessary ourselves, but the feedback really inspired us to put in the time and effort to get these things right.

Try it out and let us know if it is excellent, improved or still in need of work...

In summary, the FIGHT SPAM tool does the following:

1. Identifies spam forums, categories & topics
2. Provides tools to make it easier to REVIEW and DELETE spam
3. [NEW] Items falsely identified as SPAM can be marked 'Not Spam'
4. [NEW] Holding down shift allows for MASS SELECTION (and then either mass deletion or marking many items as 'Not Spam')

QUOTE (Eric @ Dec 17 2007, 05:23 PM)
I have a suggestion, it would be cool if you could do something like RateMyTeachers does on their forums here is an example link: http://forums.ratemyteachers.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8651

At the top left part of the first post there is a Anti-Spam button, that allows the public users to vote on whether or not they think a topic is spam or not, the admins and mods have the power to disable that feature on a specific topic. But basicly if a user thinks something is spam they can click on it and vote it spam or not spam, the feature takes into consideration 1.) How many posts have been made in that topic and how many people have voted it spam. An example a spam post with no replies would have to be voted spam by 3 different people, if that happens then it gets prefixed with [SPAM AUTO HIDING IN X MINUTES], basicly it moves that spam post into a different hidden forum that only mods and admins can see. Its a really cool system they have, it was a custom mod they did. It would be neat if that could be integrated with yours.

Quotating myself.....i guess this didnt make the cut then?

Somethign like that is already in the works, and I actually categorized it under 'rating topics', not anti-spam.

Rating a topic as spam is actually more similar to rating a good post, so I plan to include it when that feature gets fixed up...unfortunately no due date is planned, but we are working as fast as we can.

Good Feature this, thanks.

Can something on this lines be implemented for new registrations? I mean ppl. who register with an intention to spam do more often than not with usernames that are odd (e.g. freesoftwareguy, tramadol, viagraseller, teenpics etc). Is there a way to weed out these at the registering stage itself?

Also, I noticed that the FIGHT SPAM (Beta) link on the ACP Home page seems broken! It leads to page that says

Hey there everyone,

I just added many UPGRADES to the relatively NEW anti-spam tools, including the ability to leverage a central repository of spam IP addresses, so spammers cannot bounce from site to site. No need to do anything, just go to the FIGHT SPAM page and posts from known spammers will be identified. Right now the tools have identified about 1000 spammer IP addresses so far, so help us find more of these losers by clearing the spam out of your boards.

I've checked out a few other InvisionPlus sites and sure enough the tools have been very helpful at identifying spam posts just by their ip addresses. Also, the keyword filtering has been updated to get fewer false positives while catching more spam.

Perhaps the coolest part (assuming it works as well on other boards as it has during testing for me), is the re-ordering of the identified spam posts with the most-likely spam posts first. Also, the most obvious posts should be pre-selected and we condense posts from spammers to hide the offensive content. This helps resolve the common complaint that regular posts were falsely showing up at the top of the list, and also image spam posts were taking up too much room.

In summary, hopefully, the super spammy posts should be at the top of the list, but if not use another new tool, the ability to mark falsely identified posts as NOT spam.

ENJOY!

P.S. The only known downside is that the tools takes a few seconds to run, and possibly 5-10 seconds for big sites. For now I'm not too concerned with the speed, as I think we have made huge improvements in helping people clear out spam...speed will be improved in time as well.

It mostly tags non-spam on my board, just anything with bad language in the title, of which there are many.

2 things, 1 it provides a "score", so you may learn that if the score is too low it probably is not spam...each board will probably have a different threshold. Also, by marking items as not spam, you will not only not see them again, but the system will learn from what is and is NOT actually spam and improve over time.

You can set up and customize your board from within this control panel.

Clicking on one of the links in the left menu pane will show you the relevant options for that administration category. Each option will contain further information on configuration, etc.
